Check out the trailer for Julia Loktev’s THE LONELIEST PLANET, a film starring Gael García Bernal and Hani Furstenberg as a young couple celebrating their engagement by trekking through the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia. Inspired by an Ernest Hemingway short story in turn inspired by true events, The Loneliest Planet first charts how blissfully and madly in love Bernal and Furstenberg’s Alex and Nica are, until a split-second incident throws their relationship into turmoil. The trailer does an excellent job building suspense by enticing viewers with quick cuts through scenes wrought with an eerie, atmospheric quality. It never reveals what triggers the twist of the story, but instead sets it up to a point where the audience can tell that it’s pretty monumental. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m intrigued enough to check this one out when it’s released.
