100 Awesome Movie Heroes
INSPECTOR HARRY CALLAHAN - Dirty Harry (1971)
(played by Clint Eastwood)
A cop who lives by his own code, Clint Eastwood’s Harry Callahan is considered to be one of the trailblazers for antiheroes in film. He’s a combination of The French Connection's Jimmy Doyle and Star Wars maverick Han Solo - tough to love because he’s got some serious prejudices and an unorthodox way of upholding the law (street shootout in the middle of the day, anybody?), but also totally endearing because he doesn’t have any patience for scum-sucking criminals and takes particular delight in ensuring their demise by his hands.

ICONIC MOVIE SCENES
Dirty Harry (1971) - directed by Don Siegel. Starring Clint Eastwood, Andrew Robinson and John Vernon.

I know what you’re thinking. “Did he fire six shots or only five?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do ya, punk?
