THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST

Check out the trailer for Mira Nair’s newest offering, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, based on the 2007 novel by Mohsin Hamid. The film stars Riz Ahmed, Liev Schreiber, Kiefer Sutherland and Kate Hudson and centers on a Pakistani man who comes to America in search of opportunity and lands a job at a prestigious Wall Street firm. He enjoys a good bit of success, only to see his whole world change after the 9/11 attacks. Suddenly treated with suspicion and growing hostility, he begins to doubt his place in the world, finding himself torn between loyalty to his motherland and devotion to the USA. The film will see limited released in the US on April 26 2013.

In How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, much of the scene where Kate Hudson’s Andie crashes Ben’s (Matthew McConaughey) “boys night” was improvised. Hudson had the idea to toss the platter of veggies at the guys seated at the poker table. Donald Petrie, the director, knew she was going to do this, but the actors in the scene were truly surprised (x).
