As winter storms were buffeting parts of the country last week, our collective attention was drawn halfway around the world to Egypt. Images of the pyramids and the Sphinx covered in snow had emerged, and were being shared tens of thousands of times on Facebook and Twitter. It wasn’t hard to see why. For some, sharing the photos was a statement on global warming. For others, sharing was about the triumph of discovery, making them proud housecats dropping a half-chewed mouse of news on the Internet’s doorstep. For most, however, the photos were just another thoughtlessly processed and soon-forgotten item that represented our now-instinctual response to the unrelenting stream of information we’re subjected to every waking hour: Share first, ask questions later. Better yet: Let someone else ask the questions. Better still: What was the question again?

The official Man of Steel Facebook page has released a viral marketing video featuring the figure of General Zod (Michael Shannon) shrouded by warped static. In the teaser, he issues a warning to Superman and the world (via /Film).
Today in viral marketing: more of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, this time we’ve got blueprints of “jaegers”, robots used to fend off the invasion of the mysterious creatures shown invading in this clip. Consecutively, they are Striker Eureka, Coyote Tango and Cherno Alpha. Click on the pictures to enlarge.
Today in viral marketing: Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Pacific Rim has released a video that gives audiences a glimpse of the giant creatures at the center of the monster movie. The video (a bit too clean cut, if you ask me, but works nonetheless) shows a montage of frantic news reports from around the world, culminating in a brief shot of the ominous creatures towards the end. Being a Del Toro fan, I’m pretty excited about this movie.
